MARS - (Mythology ) – God of War
In the Roman Mythology, MARS is the God of War. He is the son of Juno and Jupiter or a magical flower. Since the word Mars does not have an Indo-Europen derivative, it is most probably a Latinized version of “Maris”, the Etruscan God of Agriculture. While initially he used to be the Roman God of Vegetation and Fertility and the guardian of the farm animals and crop fields, in time he was identified with war. Eventually he became the equivalent of Ares of the Greek mythology. Mars was the mythical father of Romulus, the founder of Rome. Therefore the Romans believed that Mars to be their ancestor. He was the second strongest God in Rome. He was an unbeatable God with a noble appearance. After the Romans conquered Greece, they have identified him with Ares.
